SHRM
5514 is a local Student Chapter that is free to all Baker College of Auburn Hills Students. To join the National SHRM
there is a small fee of $35.00 if you are a student. Please click on the link
below to learn more.
We meet once a month to discuss and learn about a current,
new or old HR topic. We give insight and advice into the complicated yet fun world of HR. We make HR fun.
We have fun seasonal events and visit programs.
Not an HR Student? That’s ok we welcome all Baker
students to any of our meetings and outings. HR is important for everyone in or entering the job site. HR is an
everyday part of every body lives.
The Student Chapter is student led and run. We have seven
elected positions, in which we nominate and elect at the end of every school year, to help with the decision-making and event
planning. We have a President, Vice President, VP of Merit, Secretary/Communications, Student relations, and a Treasurer.
In addition to these, we also have a HRAGD Liaison, and a Web
coordinator. We also have a Faculty Advisor to oversee all student related act ivies and discussions. For more information
on these positions and the person who is currently in, them visit our officer’s page
As stated above, we have a general information meeting once a
month on the first Saturday of the month at 1:00 pm. This meeting takes place usually on Baker College Campus, however
we have been known to plan a meeting else ware for a change in scenery. If you are on our email list, you will get updates
regularly on the meeting places and the topic. If not send a request to shrm5514@comcast.net. Or you can simply check back every now and then to the Calendar of Events page.
In addition to meetings, we have a officers meeting once a month
to make important decisions about the chapter and events. The SHRM Chapter tries to have a fun social outing every month
either HR related or seasonal. In October, the chapter is planning a trip to the Millers Big Red Apple Orchard and Cider
Mill. All SHRM members are invited and encouraged to join in the fun.
Once a year, the chapter participates in the SHRM Annual HR Games.
It is a HR related Jeopardy style game that will help students prepare for the PHR exam. For more on the PHR exam see
your HR instructor. The HR Games is a chance for our school to not only brush up on our HR knowledge, but to compete
with other local SHRM Chapters. Our first year competing in 2003 Baker brought home the Professionalism Award.
An Award that we have brought home every year since them celebrating our professional attitude toward other schools and competition.
In 2004 Baker brought, home not only the Professional Award, but also a 3rd place
trophy. Congrats to you Baker Team! In 2005 Baker had advanced to the semi-finals and took 4th place with only
one loss at the semi-finals. Baker was un-defeated during entire regular rounds. Great Job Baker!
As you can see we are much more than just group
of HR students getting together to talk about HR topics. In the new 2005-2006 school year we have a new President and
Vice President who have an excellent and exciting year planned. Hop to
see you there!
